Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

You’d never guess these Philly cheesesteak sliders came together so easily on a weeknight. They’re just as good for game day as they are for a Tuesday, and the kids are always excited when these show up at the table. These have all the flavor of a philly cheesesteak in a mini package!

Ingredients For Philly Cheesesteak Sliders

- Hawaiian rolls – King’s Hawaiian or similar brand
- provolone cheese – This cheese can vary a lot in size and thickness so the exact number of slices can vary. You can also use American cheese, or some people from Philly use Cheese Whiz if that’s your style.
- butter
- onion – I prefer sweet onion because it’s a little milder for kids. If you use a white or yellow onion, you may want to cook it a little longer so the flavor mellows.
- bell pepper – you can use any color bell pepper. Diced mushrooms can also be added with the bell pepper if your family loves it.
- paprika
- salt
- roast beef lunch meat – 7-8 ounce package works, regular or thin sliced.
- Worcestershire sauce – you can leave this out but it does add a lot of flavor!
How To Make Philly Cheesesteak Sliders
Prepping The Buns And Cheese
- Preheat the oven to 350. Line a sheet pan with aluminum foil and spray lightly with spray cooking oil.
- Slice the Hawaiian roll horizontally into a large slice of tops and bottoms, setting the tops to the side. Place the bottom half on the sheet pan. Place a layer of provolone cheese (about 6 slices) to the bottom of the rolls. Adding cheese to the bottom layer helps keep the buns from getting soggy.
Making The Pepper Onion Layer
- Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add onions and cook about 3 minutes until they just begin to soften, stirring frequently. Pour bell pepper, paprika and salt into the pan. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring frequently. Place bell pepper and onion mixture over the bottom half of the Hawaiian rolls and cheese evenly.


Making The Meat Layer
- To the same large skillet, add 1 more tablespoon of butter and melt over medium-high heat. Separate the roast beef as needed, then add to the pan. Add ½ teaspoon paprika and 2 teaspoons Worcestershire, stirring well. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, mixing frequently. Spread the roast beef mixture over the bell pepper and onion mixture evenly.


Baking The Sliders
- Cover the roast beef with another layer of provolone cheese. Place the tops of the Hawaiian rolls on top of the sliders, then brush with melted butter. Bake for 15-16 minutes. The tops will begin to lightly brown and the cheese will melt when ready. Then serve and enjoy!

What To Serve With Philly Cheesesteak Sliders?
Potatoes are my go to when I’m serving these sliders. My seasoned potato wedges or oven roasted baby potatoes are both great choices, or you could also heat up some frozen fries or poaatoes. A green salad is also a great side.
If you are serving these to a crowd, add a second flavor of sliders, like my slow cooker pineapple bbq chicken sliders or the easy ham and cheese sliders.
Can I Make These Philly Cheesesteak Sliders Ahead Of Time?
Yes you can assemble these sliders up to 24 hours in advance and then just pop them in the oven before serving. Don’t skip the cheese layer over the bottom bun and the meat and vegetables or the sliders will end up soggy on the bottom.
When baking straight from the fridge, you will likely need to add 10-15 minutes to the cook time as everything starts cold. I also recommend covering with aluminum foil so the buns don’t brown too quickly.
How Long Will Philly Cheesesteak Sliders Last?
Expect these sliders will last for about three days. Leftovers can be reheated in the air fryer for 3-4 minutes at 350 degrees, reheated in the oven at 350 degrees or warmed in the microwave.
