  • Hawaiian rolls – you can use dinner rolls or other slider buns if you prefer
  • olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef 90/10 or 80/20 work best, drain any excess grease from the meat. You can also use ground turkey.
  • salt
  • pepper
  • cheddar cheese shredded
  • onion chopped, white, yellow, sweet or purple
  • garlic fresh cloves, minced or garlic poweder
  • tomato ketchup
  • brown sugar
  • Worcestershire sauce – You can swap in balsamic vinegar for another burst of flavor for Worcestershire sauce!
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted, salted

Sometimes I’ll add a pinch or two of chili powder for a little bit of kick! Or I’ll dice up half of a bell pepper into the ground beef with the onions for a little crunch.

  1. Slice the rolls in half the long way into sandwiches, a large serrated knife works well for these soft buns.  You should have a connected sheet of bun tops and bottoms when you are finished. Place the bottom buns on the prepared pan.
  2. Spread the sloppy joe beef mixture on the bottom portion of the rolls. Top with the sloppy joe mixture with the tops of the slider rolls.

How Long Will Sloppy Joe Sliders Last?

Expect these Sloppy Joe sliders will last for about 2-3 days. They do need to be reheated to be enjoyed. Any longer then 3-4 days and the bread tends to get a little too soggy.

Store any leftovers in a covered airtight container in the refrigerator. Unfortunately, leftovers don’t really freeze well and are best when eaten fresh. The sloppy joe meat can be frozen once cooked though and can be frozen separately. I don’t recommend freezing the buns.

Notes

You can leave the cheese out of the meat mixture if you prefer, and layer it on top of the meat mixture before adding the top bun. The cheese does help the sliders to stick together a little more. They will be a little messier if you leave it out of the recipe.
A baking sheet can be used or a glass baking dish or ceramic baking pan can be used as long as it fits the sliders. I often line mine with aluminum foil before spraying with cooking oil, or use parchment paper and no extra oil.
