These spooky graveyard dirt cups are so fun! Filled with creamy chocolate pudding and cool whip, then topped with crushed Oreos these dirt cake cup desserts are easy to make. Then add lots of spooky Halloween style headstones, ghosts, bones and gummy worms to make the ultimate fun dirt pudding Halloween dessert.
I made Classic Easy Dirt Pie Cups a while back and mentioned a whole bunch of variation ideas in the post. With Halloween coming around the corner I knew making a Halloween version would make my favorite kid laugh! I wasn’t disappointed, her eyes got really big when she saw this dessert. Last year I also made a Graveyard Halloween Poke Cake which is similar to dirt pie cups, and it was also a big hit!

How To Make Graveyard Dirt Pie Cups
- Put cold milk and pudding in a large bowl. Mix the instant pudding with a whisk until it fully dissolves.
- Place the pudding in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes, or until the pudding mixture begins to thicken and set just a little.
- Fold in softened whipped topping into the chocolate pudding, mixing well. I used an electric mixer but you can also use a silicone spatula. The pudding will turn a lighter color brown.
- Layer the pudding evenly between the cups. Place in the refrigerator for 20 minutes to chill and set further.
- Crush cookies in a food processoar or in a strong zip top bag. If using a bag you can use your hands, a rolling pin or even a heavy canned food item to gently roll over and crush the cookies.
- Melt chocolate and coconut oil in the microwave, then add to a small pastry bag or zip-top bag. Cut a small hole in the tip of the bag then use to decorate Milano cookies like gravestones and ghost faces. Place the cookies in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes so the chocolate sets up.
- Sprinkle chocolate cookie crumbs on top of each dirt pie cup evenly to resemble dirt. Press the bottom half of the Milano cookie ghosts and gravestones into each cup.
- Add gummy worms and bone sprinkles to decorate, then enjoy!
Then eat and enjoy your Halloween treats!
How Far In Advance Can I Make These Graveyard Dirt Cups?
Chocolate pudding can last for 5-7 days in a refrigerator. You can easily make the pudding two or even three days in advance.
Add plastic wrap over the pudding or it can start to develop a thin chewy “skin” layer on top. This layer won’t hurt you, but the texture is just a little weird.
I recommend adding the oreo cookie crumbs, tombstones, and other candies no more than 24 hours before you would like to eat your desserts. The cookies and candies can absorb moisture from the pudding which can cause them to become soggy if decorated too far in advance. It’s best to decorate as close as you can before you serve these treats.
The tombstone cookies can be decorated with chocolate 3-4 days in advance, just leave them out of the pudding until you are ready to serve so they don’t become mushy.

What cup size is used for this recipe? Iโm looking to make this for a party and I have 50 x 2.5oz cups. Trying to figure out if Iโm to double or triple the recipe. Thanks!
Hi Melissa- These are 9 ounce cups. 2.5 ounce is a pretty small cup, it’s more of the size that restaurants serve to go sauce in. More like a mini dessert then full size. Hope they are fun for the party!
