Why We Love Biscuit Donuts

  • A Shortcut Worth Taking – Refrigerated biscuit dough gives these air fryer biscuit donuts that soft, fluffy texture everyone loves, without the time and mess of making yeast dough from scratch.
  • Feels Like A Treat – Sometimes you want to make your family something that feels a little special on the weekend, and these donuts are a great treat!
  • Cook Up Fast In The Air Fryer – These donuts bake up fast in the air fryer. It’s the kind of treat you can open the fridge, realize you have a can of biscuits, and just make. My family all agreed they tasted best warm and fresh, and with the small batches you make in the air fryer you don’t have to make a ton to enjoy a quick treat. I also have suggestions of how to bake them if you prefer to use the oven in my notes in the recipe card.

These fluffy donuts are more of a yeast-style donut when you make them with biscuit dough. If you like a cake-style donut try my pumpkin donut holes or my apple cider donut holes. Both of these recipes can be made in the air fryer or oven. My family also loves these shortcut crescent roll cream cheese danish for another great breakfast treat!

Ingredients For Biscuit Donuts

  • refrigerated biscuit dough – I recommend using the larger refrigerated biscuits, like Pillsbury Grands. Flaky layer biscuits work too, but regular biscuits puff into a more classic donut shape.
  • white sugar
  • cinnamon – ground
  • butter – melted, to dip the donuts in so the cinnamon sugar sticks

Kristy’s Tips For Success

Spray both sides of the biscuit dough with oil for even browning, and cut the center hole at least 1 inch wide so it doesn’t close while cooking. Dip the warm donuts in melted butter and cinnamon sugar right away so the coating sticks.

My family also loves these shortcut crescent roll cream cheese danish. They make a great sweet breakfast, and have a delicious creamy center.

How To Make Biscuit Donuts

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees for 2 minutes on air fry mode. Remove biscuits from can and separate the individual pieces.
  1. Remove the center of each biscuit with a small cookie cutter or a circular bottle cap at least an inch wide to make a donut shape. The dough expands as it cooks, so a tiny hole can close completely. Set the center of the biscuit dough to the side to make them into donut holes.
  2. Place the donuts in a single layer with space between each one. Don’t overcrowd the basket or the donuts won’t brown as evenly. Cook in batches if needed. Spray both sides of the donut lightly with spray oil. Cook for 4-5 minutes, turning the donuts halfway through cook time.
  1. Combine sugar and cinnamon in a shallow, wide bowl. Melt butter in a medium size microwave-safe bowl. Both bowls need to be wide enough to fit the donut inside.
  2. Dip both sides of each donut in the melted butter. Immediately dip the butter-covered donut in cinnamon sugar on both sides. Serve hot and enjoy!

How To Cook Air Fryer Donut Holes With The Dough

No waste here! You can use the same process to make air fryer donut holes from the centers of the biscuit dough. Expect the donut holes will cook in the air fryer for 3-4 minutes to cook all the way through. Roll the cooked dough in melted butter and cinnamon sugar, you don’t want to skip the best part!

Air Fryer Biscuit Donut Variation Ideas

Dip the Donuts In Glaze – Mix together the glaze from my sweet blueberry biscuits to give your donuts a sweet glazed topping. You’ll need powdered sugar, melted butter, milk and vanilla extract to make this simple glaze. Mix and then dip each donut in the glaze, yum!

Dip In Powdered Sugar – Instead of cinnamon sugar you can dip the donuts in a bowl of powdered sugar. I recommend dipping each donut once, letting it sit for a minute, then dipping it again for a thicker coating of powdered sugar.

Frost The Donuts – You can use store-bought chocolate frosting to make a chocolate frosted donut, yum!

Make A Filled Donut – Don’t cut the donut holes out of the donuts before baking them. Then use a piping bag or a strong zip-top bag to fill the cooled donuts with jam, Nutella, lemon curd, or vanilla pudding for an easy filled donut.

How Long Do These Donuts Last?

These donuts taste best as hot donuts fresh the same day you cook them, in fact my family gobbled them fasterwhen they are hot. When they are freshly baked, these cinnamon sugar donuts taste just like they came from your favorite donut shop.

You can store any leftover donuts in a covered airtight container and expect they will last two to three days. While they are still delicious, they taste best the first day.
