Variations To Try

Swap the pie filling flavor– Strawberry is delicious, but you can try other pie flavors including cherry, blueberry, raspberry, peach or even apple to make other flavors of cheesecake. You can also use the homemade blueberry filling recipe from my blueberry galettes to make it from scratch or frozen fruit. (Galettes are mini pies!)

Try Strawberry Jam– Instead of the strawberry pie filling you could drizzle strawberry jam on top of the simple dip along with a few extra fresh strawberries. Delicious!

Make It A Parfait- Layer this dip in glasses or in a giant glass bowl with crunchy cookies or pieces of sponge cake in between, you can even top it with whipped cream. Mini parfaits in jars may become one of your new favorite things too!

Make It A Pie– Add this dip to a baked graham cracker crust or a baked pie crust for a super easy cold pie filling. Or try this fun strawberry cheesecake taco stuffed with the filling, the kids will love it!

Mix Up The Cake– Angel food cake is traditional for a strawberry shortcake, but so is pound cake! Both vanilla, lemon or strawberry pound cake would be delicious. You can also dice regular cake or cupcakes, or even swap for pieces of brownies for a delicious twist on this yummy dip. This sweet fruity dip can also be a great way to use up leftover cake, cupcakes or extra pieces of cake from making a layer cake.

What Can I Use To Dip In Dessert Dip?

There are so many different types of delicious bites you can use for this easy dip recipe. I recommend picking something crunchy that is not too sweet, as the dip itself is on the sweeter side. Crunchy items are delicious with the great creamy flavors in this recipe.

Here are a few of my favorite ideas to try with this dip. Add at least one of these ideas to the side for guests to dip or make a whole caricature board and include a bunch of different crunchy cookies with this easy recipe.

Crunchy Butter Cookies- Any crunchy vanilla cookies are delicious dipped in this dip, the ones I used are just a basic butter cookies. Danish butter cookies (like the ones in the blue tin) would also be delicious.

Nilla Wafers – These buttery vanilla cookies are also sometimes called vanilla wafers, and are the perfect balance of crunchy and vanilla flavor.

Shortbread– Similar to Nilla Wafers, these buttery crisp cookies are a great choice.

Graham Crackers– Sweet honey graham crackers go with cheesecake so well, and they make the perfect little cookie to dip.

Sugar Wafer Cookies– Crispy sugar wafer cookies are long skinny rectangular cookies that remind me a little of an ice cream cone. They come in vanilla, chocolate or strawberry flavors, and are great for dipping.

Pretzels– Pretzels give a delicious sweet and salty combination when dipped. We especially like these flat pretzels for dipping.

Nutter Butters– If you want to up your peanut butter game, Nutter Butters or other peanut butter cream sandwich cookies are delicious!

Fruit– Try this dip with fresh fruit to dip, it is amazing! More strawberries are delicious but apple, blackberries, blueberries, grapes and other fresh fruit are super delicious with this dip.

Brownie Brittle– Crunchy brownie brittle is full of chocolatey flavor and is tasty as a scoop.

How Long Does This Cheesecake Dip Last?

This dip can last up to three days in the fridge when placed in a covered airtight container.

I highly recommend storing any cookies, pretzels or other items to dip separately from the dip itself. The moisture from the dip can cause the crunchier items to quickly become soft.

Can You Make This Dip Ahead Of Time?

Yes, you can make this dip the night before or up to 24 hours in advance. I recommend for the freshest results wait to top the dip with the angel strawberry pie topping, angel food cake and fresh strawberries until shortly before serving for the best flavor and texture.

  1. Can I use real whipping cream in place of the cool whip?

    1. Hi Lisa, Yes, you could use real whipping cream in this dip, but you would need to whip it into whipped cream before adding it. Since this is a dip and not something that has to hold its shape like a cheesecake, you should be able to swap that without issue. If you try it, let me know how it goes! -Kristy
