How To Make Reindeer Oreo Cookie
- Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats and set aside.
- Add black candy melts to a heatproof bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat for a minute at half power, then stir. Continue heating the black candy melts in thirty-second increments until it forms a smooth sauce. You can also use the double boiler method for melting chocolate.
- Fit a small piping bag fitted with a Wilton #3 tip and fill it with the warm black candy melts. If you don’t have a piping bag, use a freezer zip-top plastic bag, fill the bag and when you are ready to make the antlers cut just the very corner off the bag to make thin details. Let the candy melts cool for 2-3 minutes before cutting the bag and beginning to draw so the chocolate doesn’t flow too fast.
- On to the lined baking sheet, pipe small antlers with the black candy melts about 1 inch to 1 ¼ inches long. To make the antlers pipe two small letter ‘V’s in a row, then add a line down the center to connect them. Place the tray of antlers in the refrigerator for 10 minutes.
- Add the dark chocolate melting wafers to a heatproof bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat for a minute at half power, then stir. Continue heating the dark chocolate in thirty-second increments until you melt the chocolate into a smooth dark chocolate sauce.
- With a fork dip each Oreo into into the melted chocolate. Tap the fork gently against the side of the bowl to remove extra chocolate. Place the Oreo onto the prepared baking tray.
Using a fork allows you to press the fork into the cream of the cookie at a place where you won’t need to touch the top or the bottom of the cookie. Use a butter knife to gently release the cookie from the fork after it is dipped in chocolate.
- Repeat with 2-3 more Oreos, then add the noses, eyes and antlers to each cookie. Work in batches until you have dipped and decorated all of the cookies. If the decorations start to slide on the cookies, pop the chocolate dipped Oreos in the refrigerator for at least 10-15 minutes to allow the chocolate to set. Then continue adding the decorations using the extra melted chocolate and a toothpick to attach them.
- Place the tray of Oreos in the refrigerator for 15 minutes or until the chocolate sets completely. Then serve and enjoy!
Reindeer Cookie Variation Ideas
Small pretzels can be used in place of drawing the antlers out of chocolate on top of the Oreo. If the chocolate on the cookie is too warm the pretzels can slip off. It’s often easier to let the chocolate dip on the cookies cool completely and firm up, then use a little extra melted chocolate to act like a glue to attach the pretzels to the cookies.
Candy eyes can be used in place of the sprinkles for the eyes on the reindeers.
Another type of red or brown small candy can be used for the noses.
White chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate, milk chocolate or dark chocolate can be used for dipping the Oreo cookies.
You can also turn these into cookie pops by adding a lollipop stick or popsicle stick to each cookie.
These Oreo cookies also look really adorable on a tray or as a gift next to a few Christmas present Oreo truffles, or are extra hilarious with my chocolate reindeer poop candy.
How To Melt Chocolate Using A Double Boilier
You can use a double boiler method to melt both the chocolate and the candy melts. This involves placing a metal bowl or glass bowl on top of a pot of boilng water and gradually warming the chocolate using indirect heat. Using a double boiler can be more precise, and often produces a shinier, smoother chocolate and the chocolate is heated more gradually.
I used a double boiler method today which is why there is a metal bowl in the picture. I prefer the microwave version of melting chocolate which is simpler, but does require you to use a microwave safe bowl and to only heat the chocolate at half power.

How Long Will Chocolate Covered Oreo Reindeer Cookies Last?
Expect these reindeer Oreos will easily last for a week tasting their best, and can realistically last 2-3 weeks. I prefer to store them in the refrigerator so the chocolate stays more solid, and I live in a warmer climate. They can be stored in an airtight container on the counter or in the refrigerator.
If stored in the freezer these reindeer Oreos can last 2-3 months while still tasting their best.
