Why We Love Peppermint Milkshakes (Chick Fil A Copycat)

  • Fun Treat For The Whole Family – This is such a fun treat for everyone to enjoy together! Make this for a Christmas movie night, to go see holiday lights, or just for a delicious treat.
  • Make It The Size You Want – I love a good milkshake, but the sizes at fast food places are always on the big side. Making a peppermint milkshake at home means we can split it up a little easier, however we think is best that day. I’ve tried splitting a milkshake in the car between me and my kid or husband, it almost always ends with my car covered in milkshake, ha.
  • Budget Friendly – Everything is adding up when you go out to eat these days, and extras like milkshakes can add up fast. This milkshake is a great way to enjoy a holiday treat you love at home for a little less, and it’s easy to recreate at home.
  • Triple Tested – Don’t worry, my husband leaned over the back of the couch and saw me writing up this recipe. He snapped a picture of the recipe with his phone then went in the kitchen to make it again to “test it and make sure it’s right.” This recipe will be a winner for you too!

  • vanilla ice cream
  • milk
  • peppermint candy crushed, like candy cane or peppermint rounds
  • semi sweet chocolate chips – dark chocolate chips can also be used.

Optional Ingredients

  • red gel food coloring a few drops, food coloring gives the milkshake the pink color
  • whipped cream topping
  • maraschino cherries topping on the whipped cream

Chill a glass mug or glass in the freezer for 20-30 minutes before you start making your milkshake extra frosty.

How To Make A Peppermint Milkshake

  1. Add ice cream, milk, peppermint candy and a few drops of red food coloring (optional) to a blender. Blend for 1-2 minutes or until smooth and creamy.
  1. Place the chocolate chips in the blender. Pulse the blender a few times until the chocolate chips are just combined.

Peppermint Milkshake Recipe Variations

Add Chocolate Syrup – Chocolate syrup instead of or alongside the chocolate chips can be really delicious. Add it to the milkshake, or just drizzle chocolate syrup on top.

Use Flavored Whipped Cream – I’ve seen all sorts of fun whipped cream flavors out for the holidays, and this would be a fun way to try a few flavors that make sense.

Swap Ice Cream Flavors – We’ve used vanilla ice cream, but mint or peppermint ice cream is also tasty in this copycat recipe. Chocolate chip ice cream is another great option to make it at home.

Try Andes Mints – Instead of the crushed candy cane, try mixing in Andes mint chocolate candies instead of the peppermint flavor.

How Long Will This Peppermint Shake Last?

Milkshakes are usually best when enjoyed fresh. If you do have extra, you can place it in a covered freezer safe container in the freezer.

When you next enjoy your milkshake, you’ll need to blend it again with a little milk to get the right consistency. Leftover milkshake stored in the freezer will taste best if enjoyed within a week, but can last up to a month.

Notes

If you have peppermint candy pieces that are not crushed and you have a high speed blender or food processor you can quickly crush the candy pieces before adding the rest of the ingredients with a few pulses. If the blender isn’t a high powdered blender though the peppermint pieces may clump in the bottom.
Peppermint candy pieces can also be placed in a freezer zip-top bag and broken into pieces with a rolling pin or a heavy canned good (like a soup can).
