Why We Love Mint Muddy Buddies

  • Sweet Dessert Party Mix- This party mix is fun for a crowd or a party, but is just for people! Don’t give chocolate to dogs.
  • Satisfies Your Chocolate Sweet Tooth – Fans of chocolate and mint together will love this combination which is chocolaty, minty and has plenty of crunch.
  • Fun For Holidays– The minty green color makes this a really fun dessert for your favorite St. Patrick’s Day leprechaun or elf for Christmas!

I love mint-flavored desserts both to enjoy and to give as homemade gifts, especially when paired with chocolate! Try the peppermint bark brownies, the candy cane Oreo balls or the homemade peppermint patties for more delicious chocolate mint dessert recipes.

Variation Ideas

  • Swap The Chocolate Chips- White chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips or even peanut butter chips are delicious swapped for the regular chocolate chips.
  • Change The Green Chocolate Candy Melts– We’ve used green candy melts to make this mix feel extra minty, but this can be swapped for another color of candy melts or another type of chocolate chips.
  • Chex Cereal- Chex cereal comes in rice, corn or wheat. You can use whichever is your favorite type of chex cereal, or even experiment with other brands of cereal such as a store brand or Crispix also works well.

Why Is This Recipe Called Muddy Buddies Or Puppy Chow?

Puppy Chow is a party snack that started in the midwest. While delicious, many people thought it looked a little like puppy kibble which is where the name puppy chow came from. The recipe for the original puppy chow was eventually printed on the box of Chex Mix with the name “Muddy Buddy,” which is why both names are used interchangeably.

How Long Does This Party Mix Last?

Store this party mix in an airtight container at room temperature on the counter for up to a week for the best results. On warmer days I recommend storing this party mix in the refrigerator, as the chocolate may melt on your fingers.

Can I Put This Party Mix In The Freezer?

Yes you can freeze this party mix without an issue. I actually kind of enjoy it frozen with the mint flavor. You can eat it frozen or defrost on the counter for a few minutes before serving.
