Ingredients For Christmas Oreo Balls
Find the full printable recipe with specific measurements and directions below in the recipe card.
- Golden Oreos or other crunchy vanilla cream cookies
- cream cheese softened
- nonpareil sprinkles – optional, this type of sprinkle tends not to bleed the color into the dough. If you use a jimmie style Christmas sprinkles the color will likely bleed
- green candy melts – you can find these at a craft store, and often at a local grocery store.
- heart shaped sprinkles
How To Make Christmas Oreo Balls
- Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place cookies in food processor and mix until cookies turn into fine crumbs. See notes if you don’t have a food processor.
- Add cookie crumbs, the block of cream cheese and nonpareil sprinkles (optional) to a large bowl. Mix the dough with a silicone spatula. If you mix the truffle mixture in the food processor, the cream cheese mixture can become too liquidy so mix by hand.
- Roll the cookie truffle dough balls, about one tablespoon per truffle. I like to use this cookie scoop set, for this recipe you’ll need the small cookie scoop to make 1-inch balls. Place each truffle on the parchment paper lined baking sheet so they are not touching for best results. Freeze the truffles for at least 15 minutes.
- Add the green candy melt chocolate to a heatproof bowl. Place the bowl in the microwave and heat for a minute at half power, then stir. Continue heating the candy melt chocolate in thirty-second increments until it forms a smooth chocolate sauce.
- Remove truffles from freezer. Place truffle balls into green chocolate one at a time to coat, using a fork so excess chocolate can drip off. Place each truffle ball on parchment paper so they are not touching each other.
- Drizzle the top of each truffle with a little more green candy melt chocolate top with a heart sprinkle. Place the pan in the freezer for 15 minutes to help the chocolate to fully harden, then enjoy!
Variation Ideas
Make Them Chocolate Inside– I’ve used Golden Oreos to make more of a sugar cookie-flavored Oreo ball. You can easily swap out chocolate Oreos like I’ve done in my classic chocolate oreo balls, or even chocolate mint Oreos.
Try these grinch inspired oreo balls on a cute holiday platter or cookie tray. Add these snowman oreo balls or these peppermint Oreo cookie balls to make a full festive tray. Or make everyone giggle with the easy to make chocolate reindeer poop treat mix.
How Long Do These Christmas Oreo Balls Last?
These truffles will easily last a week in the refrigerator when stored in an airtight container. Use layers of freezer paper, wax paper or parchment between the truffles to separate the layers and freeze in a single layer.
These Golden Oreo cookie balls need to be refrigerated when stored because of the cream cheese.
Can You Freeze Christmas Oreo Balls?
You can totally freeze this no bake treat, they hold up great! Sometimes I actually prefer to store truffles in the freezer until I am ready to gift or share them for a cookie exchange.
Keep frozen truffles between layers of freezer paper in a freezer-safe zip-top bag or container meant for the freezer. I like to freeze these treats on a cookie sheet first so they don’t stick together, and then place them in a bag with the paper in between.

Notes
- Making Cookie Crumbs Without a Food Processor
- If you don’t have a food processor, you can place the cookies in a gallon size strong zip-top bag. Use a rolling pin or even a full canned good to crush the cookies into crumbs inside the bag.
- After the cookies have become crumbs, you can mix in the rest of the ingredients with the cookie crumbs with an electric mixer. If you don’t have an electric mixer you can mix them together by hand but it may take a little longer and the cream cheese needs to be well softened.
- Using Oil In The Chocolate– If the chocolate melting wafers are too thick, you can stir in a tablespoon of oil to thin it out. Adding a little bit of oil is typically not needed as often with melting wafers as it is with chocolate chips, but can be added if needed. I prefer to use a tablespoon of coconut oil but you can use a tablespoon of any of these oils.
