When summer starts getting hot, it’s usually pretty easy to find sweet and juicy watermelon in the grocery store.
Why not make popsicles from all that juicy deliciousness. It’s a summertime treat both kids and adults can enjoy on a hot summer day.

What Ingredients Do You Need?
- Fresh Watermelon– Lots of this sweet melon!
- Lime juice– I like to use fresh, but if you keep a little har in the fridge that works too. A little lime juice makes these popsicles irresistible!
- Sweetener- I used honey
You can swap some other fruit out for some of the watermelon. Raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries are all great choices. Between you and me, I’d pick the strawberry watermelon popsicles first if I was going to swap fruit!

Do Watermelon Popsicles Need Sweetner?
My watermelon was actually pretty early in the season this year, so I did add a little honey to these popsicles. You can add the sweetener to taste. If your watermelon is super sweet and ripe, you may not need any extra sweetener.
Taste your popsicles after you put them in the blender and blend to see if you need additional sweetener. Then adjust your popsicle recipe if needed.
Other Sweeteners You Could Use Besides Honey
- Maple Syrup
- Simple Syrup (make your own simple syrup)
I wouldn’t suggest using white granulated sugar by itself without dissolving it. You can easily end up with big grains of sugar in your frozen treats.
Do You Need To Strain These Popsicles Before Freezing?
I decided I wanted to strain the watermelon before making the popsicles with a fine sieve. This makes the popsicles feel more like an ice pop but with the flavor coming straight from the watermelon.
Straining isn’t necessary, you can just puree the fruit and add to the popsicle mold. Your popsicles will likely be more solid-colored red than mine.
What Popsicle Mold Do You Use?
I have this silicone popsicle mold. It comes with plenty of popsicle sticks and a little silicone funnel that makes filling your popsicles super easy.
How Do You Get The Popsicle Out Of The Mold?
Whether you have a silicone or a plastic popsicle mold, it can sometimes be hard to get them out!
Run a little warm water over the outside of the mold and the popsicles slide right out. Just be careful, too much warm water and your popsicle will quicky be a puddle.
My popsicle kit does come with little plastic bags you can store your popsicles in . The mold is kind of big, so putting them in bags once frozen will free up a little space.
- Popsicle mold
- 4 Cups Watermelon
- 2 Teaspoons Honey
- 1 Fresh Lime
- Slice watermelon into large chunks.
- In a food processor, blend watermelon until it’s the consistency of a smoothie.
- Strain watermelon juice with a fine mesh seive to remove any seeds and pulp.
- Add lime juice and honey to watermelon juice, then stir well until the sugar fully dissolves.
- Pour the watermelon juice into popsicle molds. Freeze for at least three hours or until frozen solid. Often it's easiest to freeze overnight. Enjoy!
- 2 teaspoons lime juice can be substituted if you don’t have fresh lime on hand. It can be left out, but the flavor really makes the popsicles pop a little more.
- Other sugars can be substituted for honey, including white sugar. Taste your watermelon juice before adding sweetener then sweeten to taste. A really juicy sweet watermelon in season may not need extra sweetener at all.
- This recipe makes 6 popsicles that are 3.2 ounces. If your popsicle mold holds more or less liquid, you may make a few more or fewer popsicles.
