Are Turkey Breast And Turkey Tenderloin The Same Thing?
Turkey tenderloin is a piece of the turkey breast but is always boneless. Turkey breast can come on the bone, or is sometimes marketed as “boneless turkey breast.” Turkey tenderloin is a cut of meat cut from a turkey breast and is a very similar cut though not quite the same.
You can also use a boneless turkey breast or boneless turkey roast swapped in for turkey tenderloin in this recipe, as both are the same cut of turkey and is based on how the store labels it.
How To Make Roast Turkey Tenderloin
- Preheat the oven to 325° F. Trim and dry the turkey well with paper towls.
- To a bowl add the melted butter and the thyme, rosemary, oregano, garlic powder and onion powder. Mix until the butter and seasoning are well combined.
- Cover both sides of the turkey tenderloins generously with the butter seasoning mixture and a silicone brush.
- In an oven proof skillet or cast iron pan, add the oil and heat over medium heat. See notes at the bottom of the page of other pan ideas to use if you don’t have an oven-proof skillet.
- Place the turkey tenderloins in the skillet. Cook turkey for 2-4 minutes on the stovetop on each side to sear the meat until golden brown.
- Move the skillet into the heated oven. Bake turkey for 50 to 60 minutes or until the meat reaches an internal temperature of 165° F when checked in the thickest part of the tenderloin with a meat thermometer.
- After removing the turkey from the oven, let the turkey rest on the pan or on a cutting board for 10 minutes so it stays juicy. Slice the turkey, then serve and enjoy.
Sometimes I can find turkey tenderloins on sale, especially right after holidays like Thanksgiving or Easter. I throw them in the freezer, and I defrost and roast them when we are ready to enjoy them.
What To Serve With Roast Turkey Tenderloin
Turkey tenderloin is simple enough for meal prep, but tasty enough for any holiday or cozy comfort dinner. Potatoes is one option default to when I serve with turkey. Try the garlic cream cheese mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes and green beans, the gooey broccoli cheese twice baked potatoes or our favorite mashed sweet potatoes.
Try adding an easy vegetable on the side like the honey butter skillet corn, the honey-roasted baby carrots or my favorite apple cranberry garden salad.
When I’m serving this recipe for the holidays, I love adding some of my favorite classic side dishes. Try my husband’s favorite sausage stuffing, the green bean casserole with bacon or the candied yams. Add a side of cornbread muffins or cheesy bacon cheese bread.
If I’m meal prepping this turkey for lunch or using up leftovers, we love adding this turkey to wraps, salads and sandwiches. Tasty!
What Is A Safe Temperature For Turkey Tenderloin?
A meat thermometer should read 165 when placed in a thick part of the turkey tenderloin. Using a meat thermometer is the best way to make sure the turkey is cooked all the way through.

How Long Will Baked Turkey Recipe Last?
Expect leftovers of this roast turkey tenderloin will last for about three days if stored in a covered airtight container in the refrigerator.
Can You Freeze This Turkey Tenderloin Recipe?
Leftovers can also be frozen in a freezer safe container or bag, and will taste best if enjoyed within 3 months. I like to add leftovers to dishes with a lot of liquid like soup so the turkey doesn’t dry out when defrosted.
