Ingredients For Grinch Hot Chocolate
Find the full printable recipe with specific measurements and directions below in the recipe card.
- heavy cream
- milk whole milk or two percent is recommended
- white chocolate chips
- sweetened condensed milk
- vanilla extract
- green food coloring
- yellow food coloring – I have found the green food coloring alone doesn’t get that Grinch green color
I do find this hot chocolate quite rich, so I usually stick to 2% milk to bring down the richness a little bit. If you love white chocolate, you’ll love this recipe!
How To Make Grinch Hot Chocolate
- Add the heavy cream, milk, chocolate chips, condensed milk, and vanilla, stir gently until everything is mixed.
- Place the slow cooker on low for 2-3 hours. Stir every 20-30 minutes just until the chocolate is melted and fully combined.
- Add green and yellow food coloring a few drops at a time until you reach your desired grinch color. I add a few drops of green food coloring first and then start adjusting with yellow and green food coloring until I get just the right color green hot chocolate.
- Keep on the warm setting for up to 3 hours for serving and enjoy! Top with mini marshmallows or whipped cream and sprinkles if desired.
Variation Ideas For This Green Hot Cocoa
You can get creative with the decorations on this Grinch hot chocolate. I’ve used peppermint sticks, but you can top the hot chocolate with crushed candy canes or crushed peppermint.
Christmas shaped marshmallows can also be fun on top of the hot chocolate if you can get them. Peeps has a lot of fun Christmas shaped marshmallows that are fun that can usually be found at major stores during the holidays.
Red heart sprinkles look adorable on top of this Grinch hot chocolate for the Grinch’s heart, but any red sprinkles also feel fun. If you are feeling really festive you can rim the mugs in red colored sugar or crushed peppermint pieces.
Can I Leave The Food Coloring Out Of This Grinch Hot Cocoa
Sure, you could leave this white hot chocolate a white color. Maybe pour the tasty hot chocolate into Grinch cups, and top with just a few red and green sprinkles.
Can I Make This Recipe On The Stove?
You can cook this creamy hot chocolate on the stove. Follow the instructions for combining the ingredients and add to a medium saucepan. Bring the entire pot of hot chocolate to a low simmer. (Do not boil, keep the heat around medium.)
Simmer for 5-10 minutes stirring frequently until the chocolate has fully melted and you have a smooth hot chocolate. Serve and enjoy, or keep it over medium-low heat on the stove to keep your delicious drink warm for a little longer.
What To Serve This Grinch Hot Chocolate Recipe With
I have made more grinch recipes, and these quick and easy Grinch pretzel bites are easy and a big hit! The grinch thumbprint cookies , grinch oreo truffles, and grinch crinkle cookies are also all fun grinch treats to make. If you’re feeling extra decadent, these Grinch brownies are one of my favorites.
You can also serve this hot chocolate with a soft cutout cookie with red frosting, just use a heart cookie cutter! It’s the perfect grinch combo, and will leave you full of Christmas spirit.
How Long Will This White Hot Chocolate Last?
Expect this hot chocolate can last for about three days. Any leftovers should be consumed in that time.
Occasionally it may be able to stretch to four days depending on how fresh the dairy is. The hot chocolate will smell sour when spoiled.
The milk and the cream is the biggest concern in this recipe, and the slow cooker can expose the dairy to more air than it comes in contact in the milk or cream container.
I recommend storing the hot chocolate instead in an airtight container to help this hot cocoa stay fresher for a longer time.
Can I Make This Hot Chocolate Ahead Of Time?
You can easily make this hot chocolate the night before. You can mix all the ingredients into the slow cooker insert and store it covered in the refrigerator overnight.
The hot chocolate will stay fresher for more days usually if you mix it into an airtight container and then pour it into the slow cooker the next day.
