Round turkey cookies decorated with candy corn, chocolate, and candy eyes are arranged on a wooden board, with peanut butter cups and extra candy corn nearby.

  • Make Memories With The Kids – This is the kind of dessert that can be fun to make with kids, whether it’s on Thanksgiving or before!

Ingredients For Turkey Cookies

Find the full printable recipe with specific measurements and directions below in the recipe card.

  • Fudge Stripe cookies or similar sized round cookie
  • miniature Reese’s cups unwrapped, or similar miniature peanut butter cups
  • candy corn
  • candy eyes – these can usually be found in the baking section for most larger grocery stores, or sometimes with seasonal baking items
  • mini M&M’s I used orange, but you could use red or brown, or another color if you prefer.

How To Make Turkey Cookies

  1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Add the fudge stripe cookies onto the baking sheet in rows. Place them about 2 inches apart with stripes going vertically.
  3. Place a mini Reese’s cup in the lower, middle section of each cookie. It should cover the hole in the center of the cookie.

  1. Place the pan of cookies in the oven for 1 ½ – 2 minutes, just until the chocolate is slightly melted on the Reese’s cup.
  2. Remove the pan from the oven. Immediately add 3-4 candy corn pieces as the turkey feathers, with the tip of the candy corn sticking into the Reese’s cup.
  1. Gently press two small candy eyes to the top of the Reese’s cup. Lightly press one orange mini M&M vertically into the center of each Reese’s cup for the nose.
  2. Place the baking sheet in the fridge. Allow cookies to chill for 25-30 minutes until the chocolate is fully set. Then enjoy!

Turkey Cookie Variation Ideas

Try Other Crunchy Cookies – You could use any round cookie as the base as long as it is about the same size as a fudge striped cookie. I recommend using a crunchy cookie as it will hold as a base a little easier than a soft cookie would for decorating like this.

Use Melted Chocolate Chips – You can melt chocolate chips on half power in the microwave and use the melted chocolate to help keep the pieces of the cookie together if needed.

Use Frosting – You can also use frosting as the “glue” to hold the pieces onto the cookies.

How Long Will Turkey Cookies Last?

Expect these cookies will last for 5-6 days if stored in a covered airtight container. They can easily be stored on the counter, as everything in them is already shelf-stable.

Notes

If you are having trouble getting everything to stay together, you can melt some chocolate chips on half power. Then use the chocolate as a glue to hold the pieces together better once chilled in the fridge.
Placing the turkey cookies in the freezer can help the chocolate to set a little faster.
If doing this activity with smaller kids, I recommend doing only a few cookies at a time on a tray. This gives you a little more time to decorate while the chocolate is warm. The cookies can’t really move from the pan until they are fully chilled and set, so I suggest having multiple pans for kids.
