You need to move fairly quickly with this recipe. It’s best to measure everything out in bowls and have all of your equipment ready before you start the recipe. See the condensed version including an equipment list in the recipe card.
How To Make Christmas Cornflake Wreath Cookies
- Line the baking sheet with parchment paper, then set to the side on your workspace. Place a small bowl of water next to the baking sheet. Measure out all of the ingredients and set out all equipment, as this recipe moves fast once you start.
- Place a pot over medium low heat. Add the butter and allow it to melt. Next add the marshmallows, stirring them constantly until completely melted. Remove the pot of the marshmallow mixture from the heat. Immediately add the green food coloring and stir.
- Pour in the cornflakes and mix well to coat them completely in the marshmallow mixture.
- Place the cookie cutter or biscuit cutter on top of the baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Scoop out about ⅓ cup of the mixture and place inside the cookie cutter.
- Use the cup of water to wet clean hands just a little, then form a wreath inside of the cookie cutter with the cornflakes. Press the cornflakes away from the center and towards the side of the cookie cutter.
- Gently remove the cookie cutter. Move quickly and repeat creating wreathes with all of the cornflake mixture. Wet hands lightly more as needed to keep the mixture from sticking to your hands.
- Add 3 or more, mini M&Ms to each wreath and top with sprinkles as desired.
- Place in the freezer for about 20 minutes to set, or until firm enough to be removed from the parchment paper while still holding its shape. Then enjoy!
Variation Ideas
Change The Color – No one says a wreath has to be green. You can make the wreathes a different color or even split the batch to make it half one color and half another. Try a mix of teal, pink and green for a fun look that would fit right in Whoville!
Swap Out The Mini M&Ms And Sprinkles – There are so many fun sprinkles and candies you can use to decorate your wreath, get creative with sprinkles.
Swap The Cereal – Cornflakes look the most like leaves, but you can try using another type of cereal. Frosted Flakes will be really sweet with the added frosting, but looks similar. Other types of flake style cereal can be used, though some like bran flakes may effect the flavor. Cinnamon Toast crunch will give everything a fun cinnamon flavor. Corn Chex will taste similar, but won’t give you the same leafy look.
Can You Freeze These Cornflake Cookies?
Yes, these cookies freeze really well and defrost pretty quickly. You can make these cookies ahead of time and freeze them until you are ready to serve.
How Long Will Christmas Cornflake Cookie Wreaths Last?
Expect these cookies will taste best if enjoyed within 4-5 days. I actually recommend storing these cookies in the freezer. They defrost pretty quickly and the freezer will help them to stay set in their shape.
