Why We Love Vanilla Fudge

  • Easy To Make – Fudge is a pretty simple dessert to make with big results! Almost everyone seems to love fudge for a special treat any time you are celebrating.
  • Fun For The Holidays – This easy fudge recipe feels extra special, and makes a great homemade Christmas gift. With the extra Christmas tree decorations, it feels extra special that someone took the little bit of extra time to make homemade fudge. We like to make fudge for dessert platters as most of the work is waiting for it to set.
  • Great To Customize – Add your own chopped nuts (we like walnuts or pecans!), sprinkles or other fun holiday decorations and make this your own easy vanilla fudge recipe.

Ingredients For Vanilla Fudge

For The Fudge

  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk canned
  • 16 ounces vanilla almond bark divided
  • 12 ounces white chocolate chips about 2 cups for 12 ounces, Ghirardelli white chocolate chips make an especially creamy vanilla fudge. You can also use white chocolate in a bar and just chop it up.
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract – using a better quality vanilla will give you a better vanilla flavor. Vanilla bean can also be used for great flavor

For The Optional Holiday Decorations

  • 12 ounces green candy melts optional
  • Yellow star sprinkles or yellow sprinkles optional
  • Holiday sprinkles optional, smaller sprinkles work best

For The Vanilla Fudge

  1. Line a 8×8 square baking dish with parchment paper or lightly oiled aluminum foil and set to the side.
  2. Place a heavy bottom saucepan over low heat. Add sweetened condensed milk, almond bark, white chocolate chips and salt. Stir constantly heating gently over low heat to melt the chocolate until melted and smooth. Remove from heat when the chocolate is fully melted.
  1. Remove the pan from the heat. Quickly add the vanilla to the pan and mix well.

  2. Lift the fudge by lifting the parchment paper and place on a cutting board. With a large knife cut into even 16 even pieces

Trimming around the outside of the fudge with a knife first before slicing it into pieces will help you have even slices that look even prettier. I skipped that step accidently with this batch which is why they aren’t all perfect rectangles.

For The Optional Holiday Decoration

  1. Place green candy melts in a heatproof bowl. Microwave the candy melts at fifty percent power for 30 seconds to a minute at a time then stir. Keep heating in 30-second increments and stirring each time until the candy melts are smooth.

  1. Place the candy melts in a small freezer zip-top bag. Snip a tiny amount from the corner of the bag. Use the green candy melts to drizzle the shape of a Christmas tree on each piece of fudge. Immediately add sprinkles and a star on top of the tree before decorating the next piece of fudge. Allow the decorations to fully set, then enjoy!

Can I Add Nuts Or Other Flavorings To This Vanilla Fudge?

Absolutely! Feel free to add chopped nuts, other extracts, or even chocolate chips to customize your vanilla fudge with condensed milk.

Is Sweetened Condensed Milk The Same As Evaporated Milk or Regular Milk?

Regular milk or cream can not be substituted in this fudge recipe without a lot more work and a candy thermometer. When you use sweetened condensed milk it is one of the easiest fudge recipes, but it becomes more complicated when you try to make it from scratch with regular milk.

Evaporated milk can not be substituted in this fudge recipe. Evaporated milk is processed differently then sweetened condensed milk and is unsweetened with a different amount of water. Sweetened condensed milk is sweetened, and can’t be swapped for unsweetened evaporated milk easily.

What’s The Best Way To Cut Fudge Neatly Into Perfect Fudge Squares?

For clean cuts, use a large sharp, warm knife. Dip it in hot water, wipe with a clean towel, and then cut in between each cut then repeat for each slice. While you are slicing, try making some brown sugar fudge too!

How Long Will Vanilla Fudge with Sweetened Condensed Milk Last?

Fudge will last about a week when stored in an airtight container on the counter. Store fudge in an airtight container in the refrigerator and the fudge will last for 3-4 weeks.

Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Vanilla fudge will taste its freshest if enjoyed within the first week of making it no matter if you store it in the refrigerator or at room temperature, but will taste fresher longer if refrigerated.

Can Fudge Be Frozen?

Yes, this fudge can be frozen and will last for about 3 months if stored properly. I freeze the fudge on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet to help ensure the decorations fully set and to keep the fudge pieces from sticking to each other.. Then once frozen place the fudge in a freezer zip-top bag or freezer container. Wrapping the fudge in freezer paper can also help to extend it’s freshness.
