- rainbow sprinkle cake mix funfetti, rainbow bits, confetti cake mix or any white or yellow cake mix
- baking powder
- eggs room temperature
- vegetable oil
- pure vanilla extract
- rainbow sprinkles plus a handful for the top. Use rainbow jimmies, as other types of sprinkles will often bleed into the cookie dough.
Cake Mix Note
This recipe was developed with a 15.25 ounce cake mix. Some of the cake mix brands have been decreasing the size to 13.25 ounces. If you use only 13.25 ounces of cake mix the recipe may not be as successful so check the box carefully.
You could also add 1/4 cup from a second box of mix to make up the extra missing 2 ounces from the smaller-sized box. Some readers have reported they have added 1/4 cup of flour extra to make up the difference. I have not tested this in every recipe here, so it may not be successful for every recipe on this site.
How To Make Funfetti Cake Mix Sprinkle Cookies
- Preheat oven to 350 ºF. Line two cookie sheets of parchment paper and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the Rainbow bits cake mix and ¼ teaspoon of baking powder.
- Add eggs, vegetable oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix on medium-low with an electric mixer or by hand with a silicone spatula until a dough forms.
- With a silicone spatula, mix in sprinkles ¼ cup at time to mix evenly.
- Scoop 1 1/2 tablespoon cookie dough and roll and shape dough into balls. Place cookie dough about 2 inches apart on the baking sheet and add a few extra sprinkles on top (or lots of sprinkles, they are the best part!)
- Bake cookies for about 10-12 minutes, the bottoms will just be starting to get golden. Allow baked cookies to cool on the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire cooling rack to finish cooling. Enjoy!
Variation Ideas
- Change Up The Sprinkles– While I’ve used rainbow sprinkles, you can use any color for any holiday or party in your homemade funfetti cookies.
- Add M&Ms- Chocolate M&Ms or other chocolate candies on top would be delicious in these cookies. I recommend pushing a few extra colorful candies into the top of the cookies right after they come out of the oven.
- Add Almond Extract – Sometimes I also like to add 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract also because it can make this cookie taste a little more like a homemade cookie, but it’s totally optional
How Long Do These Cookies Last?
Expect your cookies to last about three to four days when stored in an airtight container on the counter. For best results, this funfetti cookie recipe will taste freshest in the first two days.

Sprinkles Tip
Use rainbow jimmies (the longer skinny tube shaped sprinkles.) Other types of sprinkles like the round sprinkles or the colored sugar will often bleed into the cookie dough, and are better for using on top of desserts.Cake Mix Tip

Loved these so much! I mixed everything up in the bowl together and had the perfect late-night sweet snack. Easy peasy.
Unfortunately, the dough was so sticky it was unworkable. I tried chilling it before scooping, and even that didn’t work. I ended up wasting a cake mix and A LOT of sprinkles ๐
Hi Kate- I’m so sorry this didn’t turn out for you. Can I ask what brand of cake mix you used? Too sticky of dough doesn’t sound right, but cake mixes can vary a little from mix to mix. Maybe we can figure out what happened together.
