  • butter melted plus extra for the baking pan
  • parsley dried, you can also use a few tablespoons of fresh parsley
  • minced garlic
  • red pepper flakes
  • biscuit dough I’ve used Pillsbury Grands. Some of the store brand doughs are a little stickier to work with. You can also use regular biscuit dough and just make sure to cut dough in half so you have two thin rounds. Crescent rolls dough can be used, but it takes a little more work to make the loaf pretty in the pan because of their shape.
  • shredded cheese I used a mix of cheddar cheese, pepper jack cheese and mozzarella cheese.

How To Make Cheesy Pull Apart Bread With Biscuit Dough

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9×5-inch bread pan with extra melted butter or cooking spray.
  2. Open biscuit can and carefully peel each of the biscuit pieces apart to make two thin pieces of dough. You need sixteen thin and round pieces of dough total.
  3. Melt butter then mix with parsley, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Mix shredded cheese together in a separate bowl if using multiple kinds of cheese.
Brushing biscuit dough with butter and herbs
  1. Use a silicone brush to brush the dough with the butter mixture. Add a sprinkle of cheese to the dough. Add another piece of dough and repeat for all dough pieces until you have two large stacks. It can be helpful to make two stacks do the dough doesn’t fall over.

Variations and FAQ

Change The Cheese- I used an even mix of mozzarella, pepper jack and cheddar. Any semi-hard shredded cheese that is melty will work well in this recipe. Mozzarella, provolone, monterery jack, havarti, munster and gouda are all great options. You’ll need 1 1/2 cups total of cheese. A sprinkle of parmesan cheese on top can also be delicious.

Add Italian Herbs– You can swap a tablespoon of Italian seasoning for the parsley to give the recipe even more of an Italian herb bread taste.

Skip The Cheese– You could skip the cheese in this recipe. You would be left with buttery herb pull apart bread. If you are skipping the cheese, go a little heavier with the butter between the slices.

Add Pesto– We love pesto in our house and always have a jar of basil pesto in the house. Try drizzling a little in between the pieces of bread, or between every other slice. A little goes a long way as pesto packs a lot of flavor.

Serve with Marinara- If I’m serving this as an appetizer, I like to add a bowl of warm marinara. My guests always like dipping!

Is This Cheesy Pull Apart Recipe Spicy?

The red pepper flakes in this recipe do give the bread just a little bit of a kick, which can help offset the cheesy butteriness. If you aren’t a fan of any spice though you can leave the red pepper flakes out. If you prefer more spice you can add a few more red pepper flakes!

  1. Just stack them in the pan as you go along. Much easier

    1. I found I spent more time keeping them from falling over in the pan that way since they are stacked on the smaller side of the dough, it’s easier to make a stack outside the pan.

  2. This sounds really good, I can’t wait to try it. Thanks for the recipe.
