Make a blueberry galette, but in mini size. These blueberry galettes are a gooey and delicious dessert that tastes like a pie but is even easier! Juicy blueberries are wrapped in a puff pastry dough for a dessert (or breakfast!) that’s just bursting with sweet blueberry goodness.

These blueberry galettes are so good. If you’ve never made a galette it’s almost like an open-faced pie.

Two blueberry galettes, each on a plate with a fork, napkin and glass of milk.

Don’t let these fancy feeling words fool you though, this is the perfect easy dessert for kids to make. The shape is not even a little fussy, in fact they definitely don’t need perfect details to make a super beautiful treat.

This recipe is a sample from my cookbook Kid Chef Bakes For The Holidays and is included in the summer dessert chapter. This cookbook is packed full of 50 recipes to celebrate no matter what season you’re in. Check out a sample of how this recipe looks inside the cookbook!

What Ingredients Do I Need For Blueberry Galettes?

  • Sugar– For the blueberries and for sprinkling around the edges
  • Lemon juice
  • Vanilla Extract– real vanilla will taste better than imitation if you have it!
  • Blueberries– Fresh is best for this recipe as frozen can contain more water.
  • Puff Pastry Sheets– These come frozen in the dessert section of the grocery store
  • Flour
  • Egg

Have a few extra blueberries you want to bake with? Try making my blueberry bread, it tastes just like a blueberry muffin. Or my Baked Blueberry French Toast Casserole is delicious, and can be prepped the night before! Or try the Sweet Blueberry Biscuits With Vanilla Glaze. Bursting with blueberries and just the right amount of sweetness.

What Do I Serve A Blueberry Galette With?

Serve these galettes as a dessert all by themselves! They are also delicious with some whipped cream or even a little ice cream. I like them best served warm and gooey!

While these galettes are sweet, they also make a tasty breakfast too. When I serve them for breakfast, they feel similar to having a danish but without the cream cheese.

What Is Puff Pastry Dough?

Puff pastry is a gooey dough that’s light and flakey. It takes more time and skill to make puff pastry from scratch. Frozen dough sheets defrosted make an easy and really delicious base for this blueberry galette recipe that is also fast.

This recipe makes more of a pie, but if you use pie dough instead of a puff pastry you can make a pop tart! Check out my Homemade Strawberry Pop Tart Recipe that can be made in the oven or air fryer.

Why Is This Recipe Great For Kids To Bake?

Galettes are similar to pies in flavor and are totally delicious, especially during blueberry season in the summer. These little mini galettes bake up much faster than a standard pie and look beautiful even if you don’t shape every corner perfectly. A pie also takes a bit more detail work to look pretty, but this recipe is very forgiving and perfect for any beginner kid chef and baker!

Instructions

  • PREHEAT THE OVEN TO 425˚F.
Lay a piece of parchment paper on the baking sheet.
  • MIX THE BLUEBERRY FILLING.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar, lemon juice, vanilla, and salt. (To grab a pinch of salt, pour a little salt in one hand and with your other pinch a little salt between your pointer finger and thumb.) Then fold the blueberries into your sugar mixture and set aside.
  • SLICE THE PUFF PASTRY DOUGH.
Unroll the puff pastry dough on a cutting board, sprinkling a light dusting of flour under the dough if it starts to stick. Cut the puff pastry into four equal squares. Trim and round the corners just a little for each square of dough, making them the same shape as an app icon.
  • PREPARE THE DOUGH FOR THE FILLING.
Beat your egg with the water. This is called an egg wash. It’s used to help pastries and bread get a brown crust. Brush the egg wash around the outside of each pastry square. Place 1/4 cup of blueberry mixture in the middle of each square.
  • FOLD THE DOUGH AND PRESS IT FIRMLY TOGETHER.
Fold the outside edge of the dough in, pressing with a spoon to make an edge crust like a pizza crust. Turn the galette and keep folding in the edge around the whole outside. The folds should be about 1/2 inch of dough. Repeat this for all four galettes.
  • BAKE THE GALETTES.
Using a silicone brush, brush the entire crust of the galettes with the egg mixture. Sprinkle the edges of your galettes with a little sugar. Bake in the oven for 13 to 15 minutes, or until the galettes begin to turn a light golden-brown color on the edges. Let the galettes cool and enjoy!
