Making a fresh instant pot whole chicken is easy, juicy and delicious. With just a few rotisserie seasonings you can have a delicious pressure cooked chicken on your table, or ready to use in recipes for dinner and lunches too.
Equipment
1 Instant Pot, Ninja Foodie or Pressure Cooker
1 Trivet (often comes with an instant pot, available in metal or silicone)
1 Long Tongs
1 Silicone brush
1 Meat Thermometer
Ingredients
5poundwhole chickenraw, The cook times are intended for about a 5 pound chicken in a 6 quart instant pot. If yours is larger or smaller you may need to adjust your time, see notes in the article.
1/4cupolive oil
1tablespoongarlic powderOr 2-3 cloves fresh garlic. Minced garlic can also be substituted.
1tablespoonpaprika
1tablespoonsalt
1teaspoonblack pepper
1 1/2cupchicken brothWater also works, but has less flavor
Instructions
Check the inside of your chicken for anything inside. Pat the chicken dry then place on a trivet into the Instant Pot and lower into the metal pot.
In a small bowl mix together the olive oil, garlci powder, paprika, salt and pepper. Generously brush the mixture over the top of the raw chicken. Pour the chicken broth around the edges of the chicken into the bottom of the pot.
Close lid on Instant Pot and turn pressure valve to seal. Set on manual mode on high for a cook time of 30 minutes.
Allow for a natural pressure release of 10-15 minutes at the end of the cooking time before releasing any remaining pressure by opening the pot. DO NOT do a quick release (press the button before the pot has released the pressure) or your chicken will be dry. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
Check your chicken with a meat thermometer, being careful not to touch it right up against the bone. (This can effect the reading.) The temperature should register at least 165 degrees to be a safe cooking temperature. If your chicken has not finished cooking, you may need to cook it for an additional few minutes. This can happen occasionally if you have a larger bird.Use this chart for how long to cook a fresh chicken in a 6 quart instant pot based on the weight of the chicken.

See more information in the post if you have an 8 quart instant pot or if your chicken is frozen.2-3 cloves fresh garlic can be substituted for the garlic powder and is delicious. (Extra cloves won't hurt if you like your meat extra garlicky.) Minced garlic can also be substituted, I've used a full tablespoon and the chicken comes out deliciously
